Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is a type of cancer that begins as a growth of cells in breast tissue.
Breast cancer comes after skin cancer as the most common type of cancer among women in the United States. But breast cancer does not only affect women. Because all people are born with breast tissue, anyone can develop breast cancer.
Breast cancer survival rates are increasing. The number of people dying from breast cancer continues to decrease. Much of the credit goes to the widespread support for breast cancer awareness and fundraising for research.
Advanced breast cancer screening methods allow health care professionals to diagnose breast cancer early. Because detecting cancer early increases the hope of treating it. Even if it cannot be cured, there are many treatments to prolong life. New discoveries in breast cancer research help healthcare professionals choose the most effective treatment plans.
